Time flies fast when you’re having fun! It seems like just yesterday summer was ending and the days were getting shorter. The team at Lohman Company has been keeping busy as we enter the holiday season. Here are just some of the fun and interesting happenings that have been going on since our last newsletter.
New Hires:
Lohman Company welcomed Robin Lythgoe to the team on September 23. Robin will be assisting with our firm’s billing process.
Looking for a few good recruits:
Several team members attended multiple college recruitment events in the September and October.
Mary Jordan, Doug Alford and Craig Lohman attended Arizona State University’s Meet the Firms event on September 22. It was a great opportunity to meet a lot of amazing Accounting students.
On September 29, Craig spent the day at ASU performing On Campus interviews with several of the students that they met at the Meet the Firms event.
Seth Marty and Cati Piorkowski attended Northern Arizona University’s Career Exploration Day on October 2. During the event, they interacted with students and provided guidance and insight into what it is like to work in Public Accounting.
Seth attended the NAU Accounting Advisory council meeting on October 3.
On October 9th, Seth Marty and Lisa Otis spend the day at NAU conducting On Campus interviews with a number of the Accounting students they had met previously on Career Exploration Day.
CCH User Conference
Craig attended the CCH User Conference that was held in Orlando, Florida from October 26 – 29. During the conference, he had the opportunity to interact with a large number of accounting industry experts and learn about the ongoing changes that are happening within the industry. Craig gained valuable insight and enjoyed listening to Shark Tank’s Daymond John tell his amazing story of how he created his own clothing line, FUBU, and how he came to be one of the investors on the very popular television show.
A team that cares
On October 17, Lohman Company helped sponsor the Boy Scouts of America Grand Canyon Council’s Golf Invitational. Craig and Dennis participated in the event. Unbelievably, Craig won the longest putt contest, sinking an approximate 35 foot putt! Wow!
Along with Craig, team members Allison Dozbaba and Crystal Noel volunteered to assist the Mesa Chamber of Commerce on October 25, which was national Make a Difference Day. The team volunteered with their children to spend the morning hanging fire prevention information bags on the doors of a neighborhood in Mesa.
Fun times…
Lohman Company also took time to have some fun over the last few months. We held our Summer and Halloween Bingo contests within the office, with a number of lucky winners.
On September 18, we held our annual bowling event at The Brunswick Zone in Gilbert. The event included bowling, entertainment and several prizes. Everyone had a great time!
Several team members had family visit the office on Halloween to let their children trick or treat around the office in their costumes. The little ghosts and goblins were thrilled with the treats they received.
Lohman Company Anniversaries
As of September 4, AJ Baker has been a Lohman Company team member for 7 years. Mary Jordan has been a part of the team for 8 years as of September 5. Happy anniversary and thanks for your service to the company and to our clients!
Extracurricular fun
Recently, Mary Jordan took the opportunity to go on an exciting Lindblad Expeditions Alaskan cruise in July. The cruise traveled in and around the inland passage of southeast Alaska, aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird. Mary described how one morning they were joined for about two hours by 5 – 7 humpback whales and 8 – 10 orcas swimming and playing alongside the ship. According to the one of the naturalists on board, it was the most tremendous orca spectacle he had observed in the Chatham Strait in 25 years!
Mary also described a moment when they were out in the Gulf of Alaska where the massive Stellar sea lions live on rock islands and play in the turbulent water. Many of these sea lions came very close to the boats to investigate. She said it was an amazing experience and the trip of a lifetime!
Beth Nuthals Haagenson and her husband took their 22 month old son, Ethan, to Williams, Arizona to visit the Pumpkin Patch Train. Ethan is fascinated with trains and tractors and was very excited to be able to see them both up close. Williams is a cozy town that offered a great getaway to cooler weather, which reminded these Midwesterners of home.
Craig spent a few days with his family in Oceanside, California during his children’s fall break. The family enjoyed spending time on the beach and were able to catch some beautiful sunsets.
